Illustration Friday: Cold!

October 19th, 2005 § 25

Brrrrr!
This weeks addition to the ever popular Illustration Friday’s topic “Cold”. The weather here is getting a crispness in the air. Frost covers my car windows causing me to make extra time to allot for the morning workout of scaping it off. This time of year is probably my favorite time of year. It lasts very short where I live. By November we will probably have snowfall. I can wait for that though …This piece is inspired by two things. Vince Guaraldi and Linus Van Pelt. I’ve been listening to Vince Guaraldi everyday for 2 weeks straight. Once the leaves turn I can’t help but plug him into my head. His piano work is the perfect complement to the leaves falling. The Vince Guaraldi Trio is responsible for the fantastic jazz sounds in Charles Schultz Peanuts animated shows. Whenever I see a pile of leaves I say to my wife reapeating the words of that great thinker Linus Van Pelt “Never jump into a pile of leaves with a wet sucker”. Great advice Linus.

Do yourself a favor and pick up a pile of Vince Gauraldi Trio mp3’s today. Also, keep your eye on vinceguaraldi.com as they are in the process of completing a documentary on the man himself. Very cool. Check out the clip from the doc on the site. Good Grief! His son is a mirror of his father’s image.

Illustration Friday: Float!

October 5th, 2005 § 21

Boo Hoo!
Well, I finally got to do an Illustration Friday. Past weeks have been very busy with freelance work. I’ve started some of the previous Illustration Friday’s but they never panned out. Then real work would creep in taking me away from them. Finally I got this one completed for the theme of “Float”. It is a surprisingly drepressing image. I am usually more upbeat with my art. Maybe I am maturing… I doubt that. What do you suppose has made this swan so sad?

Little Devil!

BOO!
It’s October! My favorite month. I suspect I’ll be inspired to draw little goblins and ghosts all month long. It’s already started with the cavity ridden rug rat above.

A Halloween Riddle for you:

Q: What do you call a little monsters parents?

A: Mummy and deady!

Best,
Steve
